Coaches Bios
Richard Shakour - Girls U-9 & U-10
Richard has been coaching girls youth soccer in both GEYA and LYA at
various age groups for the past 6 years. Growing up in Germany, he
played 3 years with Bayern Munich Youth and later in Canada in the West
Vancouver youth soccer league. Throughout college he was also involved
with playing and refereeing. Richard will be taking his E license in June.
Dave Izard - Boys U-11
Dave grew up playing soccer in Connecticut, playing for the Cheshire Soccer
Club travel program as well as a 2 year Varsity starter at Choate Rosemary
Hall. He has coached the past five years in the LYA/LSC program as well as
the Spirit GEYA indoor developmental program at USTC.
Eric Steelman - Boys U-11
Eric played 12 years of township travel soccer while growing up in the
Rochester NY area. Eric has coached kids in the LYA/LSC soccer program
for the last 4 years. He also has prior coaching experience in the
LYA youth baseball program.
Chris Waters - Boys U-11
Chris is starting his third year coaching the Lionville SC Kixx and has been
involved in soccer, both as a player and/or coach, for over 20 years.
He played club soccer for the Warwick (RI) Soccer Association growing up
and progressed to become a two (2) year starting forward and the co-captain
of the Pilgrim High School Soccer Team. Chris continued with Adult League
play through college and early adulthood, and became re-engaged with the game
as his children grew to develop an interest. In addition to his LSC coaching
experience, he has coached intramural soccer through the LYA, the GEYA/USTC
and the WBYA programs.
R. Shawn Archambault - Girls U-11
Shawn has been coaching soccer for 7 years, 4 of which have been with
LYA travel teams. Shawn currently has his E coaching license
and will be working on his D license this August.
Ken Kunzman - Girls U-11
Ken is the assistant coach for the U-10 Girls Lions. He currently has his E
coaching license.
Michael Santangelo - Boys U-12
Michael has been actively involved in soccer locally, both as a
player and coach, for the past 27 years. He played high school soccer
at Archbishop Carroll and club ball for Radnor United and Allegro. He
holds his Youth Module coaching license and has coached within the LYA
Soccer program, the Spirit United Developmental league and various
winter indoor leagues at the United Sports Training Center. Michael and
family currently reside in Uwchlan Township.
Jim Thomas - Girls U-12
Jim started playing soccer in 1964 and was a varsity starter all the way
through his senior year in high school 10 years later. Following high
school, Jim played intermittently at the intramural and club level until
a serious knee injury sidelined him. Jim has been a head coach for the
past 7 years, coaching 2 separate teams each of the past 5 years. Last
fall, his U11 girls travel team won their division championship in the
Reading Berks Junior Soccer League. Jim holds the NSCAA Advanced Regional
diploma and has attended additional professional clinics. This will be
Jim’s first year with Lionville and he hopes to build on a winning tradition.
Matt Rogers - Boys U-13
Matt is in his fourth year of coaching with the
Lionville SC Tornadoes. He has been involved in soccer
as a player for over 20 years, competing on several
local club teams, the Owen J. Roberts High School
PAC-10 Championship winning team, and traveling
overseas to represent the United States in Belgium Cup
'97. Matt holds the USSF National "D" Coaching License
as well as the NSCAA State and Regional Goalkeeping
Certificates. In addition to his four years as head
coach for the Tornadoes, Matt has worked as an
assistant coach and trainer for clubs at a wide
variety of age and competition levels.
Wade Lee - Boys U-14
Wade Lee has been involved with the sport of soccer for over three decades. He played all through high school, where he was a two-time All-State mid-fielder for Trinity High School in Louisville, KY. He then went on to play four years at Grinnell College, where he was a three-time All-MidWest
Conference performer, team MVP, and set several scoring records for midfielders.
He has coached both adult and youth sports for over 25 years. Most recently, he
coached the Lionville Lightning Travel Team from ages U-12 through U-16. The
team began as a Division 3 team in Delco, and finished as a top-tier Division 1
team. He has been involved in LYA for over fifteen years, served on the
LYA Board of Directors for nine years, and just recently stepped down as
President of the Lionville Soccer Club.
Mark Gray - Girls U-14
Mark has over 30 years of playing experience and 8 years of coaching experience
in the local GEYA, LYA intramural, and travel programs. This will be
Mark's third full season as coach of the LSC Twisters. The team has advanced to
the semi-finals of PAGs league play the last two years. In high school, Mark was
co-team captain during his senior year and was selected to the all league team
as junior and senior. Mark continued to play while in college and competitively
after college for Rose Tree Soccer Club. Mark continues to enjoy the game as a
player in the West Bradford Adult Soccer League. Mark holds an "E" License and a
NSCAA Goaltender Level 1 certification.
John Marbach - Girls U15
John currently hold a "D" coaching license and has been coaching for over 16 years for both
Boys and Girls' teams. He has coached division champion teams for the U19 boys, division
champions U14 girls and numerous teams ranging from U7 on up. He joined LYA in 2000 as a
coach and director of intramural soccer - small sided division. The last two seasons, he has
lead the Hurricanes to first place finishes and last season - division champions.
