Kixx Drills
Here are some drills that we particularly like. Keep those kids practicing, and we'll add more as we go.
Solo Drills
These are solo drills, which are great for the kids to practice on their own. They're also the sort of thing that there really isn't enough time for in team practices, so the more kids can work on these at home, the better off we'll be! At this age, the simple rule of thumb is, "The more they touch the ball, the better they get." So, a kid who spends even 10 minutes a day practicing some of these drills will improve pretty quickly!
- Juggling - Most people know this one. Essentially, juggling consists of taking a ball and trying to keep it in the air for as long as possible, using all of the body parts that are legal in soccer - feet, thighs, chest, head. The kids love this one, because it's very easy to "keep score"; one point for each time it touches a body part before hitting the ground. Challenge your kids to see how many times they can juggle without the ball hitting the ground, and then challenge them to do a few more each day! Here's a great video of juggling. Do some searching on YouTube, and you can find some amazing juggling videos that the kids will really enjoy, like this one of an 8-year old girl juggling over 1000 times in row!!
- Toe Touch - This is an extremely simple drill. All you do is tap the ball with the tip of your toe, alternating left and right. You're not kicking the ball - the ball should stay in the same place. This is another one where Mom or Dad can count how many touches you can do in a minute! Here's a video of toe touching.
