Lionville Boys U14 Scorpions
take Three Golds and a Bronze
in August Tournaments!

September 1, 2008: The Lionville Scorpions
Boy’s
U14 Soccer team had an impressive summer tournament season, winning
gold in three
tournaments and coming third in another. The Scorpions went 2-0-1 in
the Ridley
Tournament. In the first match,
Lionville defeated the Hulmeville Hawks by a score of 4-1.
The second match saw the spirited West
Chester Pride battle back to a 1-1 draw with the Scorpions. Lionville secured first place with a strong
5-0 finish over the Interboro Bucs. The
Scorpions then went to the Danny Bevilaqua Memorial Tournament in King of Prussia. Lionville
got on the board quickly by defeating a
well-coached King of Prussia team 3-0. The Scorpions followed this with victories
over Rose
Tree and the West
Chester Pride, each by a score of 2-0, to take tournament gold. Next, the Scorpions went to the Kid’s Peace
Tournament in Orefield,
PA. They began strong, by defeating Souderton by a
score
of 5-0 and Carbon
United by a score of 5-1. The Scorpions
ran into trouble in the semifinal match, falling to a tough squad from
Deep Run
by a score of 3-2. This was good for a
third place finish. The Scorpions closed
their Tournament season with a strong showing at the Al Perlini
Memorial Tournament
in Warminster. The Scorpions opened with
a strong 3-0 win over Montgomery United. The
tough Scorpion defense held onto a 1-0 victory
against YMS Arsenal
before battling the host Warminster Wolfpack. Warminster
tallied late in the first half to jump
ahead of the
Scorpions. However, Lionville clawed
back in with a breakaway goal late in the second half and sealed the
victory
with a drilled shot into the net in the last minute of play. The Scorpions capped off their first place
finish with a 3-0 victory over the Haverford Strikers.
The defense was anchored by the stellar play
of Keepers Matt Richman, Ryan Markle and Jordan Arpan.
With defenders Doug Sexton, and Joey Meehan,
stopper Zach Schaule, and midfielders Sam Waxman and Mike Auer, the
stingy
Scorpion defense only allowed six goals in thirteen matches. The Scorpion attack was multidimensional with
scoring from Jordan Arpan, Nick Caruso, Austin Darling Evan Hermans,
Ryan
Markle, Connor McGovern, Joey Morinelli, Ariel Raban, and some very
timely
goals from Lewis Deane.
