Team Headlines
2007/8 Season:
Regular Season:
PAGS Regular Season Record: 6 – 2 – 1: 19 points and a 2nd place finish
improving over their 4th place in 2005, and 3rd place finish in 2006. The Lady
Twisters are off to their third year of playoffs. The Twisters will face a
challenging opponent LV Magic, a team the Twisters defeated in a very close
match 2-1 during the regular season (LV Magic’s only loss of the season). The
Twisters started off with a 1-2-1 record and then blasted off 5 straight wins to
end the season.
Playoffs:
The Twisters as Runner-up/Finalist in PAGS U13G Championship playoff bracket.
The Twisters took on a very competitive team, LV Magic, and posted a come from
behind 2-1 victory in the semifinals. The Twisters gave up a first half direct
and the LV Magic player drilled a 25 yard kick in the upper part of the goal to
take an early 1-0 lead. However, in true Twister fashion, the girls battled back
to tie with their own direct kick to tie it 1-1. In the second half, the girls
came out and decided to win every 50-50 ball, played a dominating attacking
defense, and challenged every play to move forward and score. Their aggressive
play and desire paid off and during a play in front of the Magic’s goal, the
Twisters scored to take the lead. LV Magic took on the challenge and came back
with a strong finish with the game ending on two corner kicks by LV Magic.
The Twisters took on the Division winner for the championship, PA Classics. The
game ended with PA Classic winning 2-1. The game was fairly even throughout and
a great game to watch. Action went goal to goal with both teams getting several
exciting opportunities. The goaltending for both teams was very solid and kept
the score close. PA Classic went up 2-0. At the start of the second half to the
end of the second half, the Twisters came on and took control with a pressing,
attacking defense and offense, a never give up attitude and scored with 20
minutes left to make the score 2-1. T he Twisters had 5 to 6 legitimate scoring
attacks against PA Classic in the final 20 minutes but PA Classic turned them
away.
Two objectives the team set for this season were achieved: To score more than
last year and give up fewer goals than last year. The new formation created much
more offense this year as their “Goals for” has grown from 6 in 2005, 12 in
2006, to 19 in 2007!! The Twisters also reduced their “Goals Against” from 13 in
2006 to 11 in 2007. This was completed only through hard work and teamwork and
solid fundamental play. Great job girls.
The girls competed in two strong tournaments and posted solid efforts in both:
competing in the Spirit Kickoff Classic and VA Beach Columbus Day Tournament.
The Twisters finished 3rd in their bracket at Spirit. At VA Beach the girls
competed in the highest level of tournament play and won games against two
strong VA teams. The Twisters ended the tournament with a tough overtime loss
(PK 4-3) in the semi-final match to a strong Michigan team.
The Twisters would like to thank all family member fans that joined us during
the regular season games. We value your spirit and enthusiasm while encouraging
us every minute of every match. We had a fun year learning new skills, new
formations, and gaining new friendships with the new Twisters joining the team
this year. This was a year the girls learned to trust each other on the field
and play solid team possession soccer – “Possession with a Purpose to Score”.
We would also like to thank our competition in the Championship bracket. All the
teams demonstrated good sportsmanship and very competitive play.
